Sustaining Its Cold Temperature For Days, This High-End Cooler Comes With A Price.
Late last year, the ROVR was Kickstarted to great fanfare, raising over $185,000 from eager backers in search of the ultimate cooler. Now, the final product is available in three different sizes (60, 80, or 85 quarts), each in a choice of three to five colors.
The promises of the ROVR are substantial – with 10 days of ice retention, a dry bin to keep your belongings dry, a container deep enough to store a bottle of wine upright and bearproof capabilities. Photos do not do it justice, as it appears small and unassuming next to a person or pet, but in reality, it is a colossal-sized cooler. Its chartreuse color scheme probably isn't helping its image, though.
The smallest version, the RollR 60, weighs 45 pounds and measures 26 x 18 x 20 inches - making it almost impossible to move alone. The cooler is impressive once filled, however, demonstrating its high-quality construction. During our testing, a 10-pound bag of ice took four days to melt, losing only a quarter of its volume each day due to the cooler's superior ice retention capabilities. The deep interior is ideal for upright storage of bottles and the removable dry bin is handy, but it is best suited for items such as tomatoes and lettuce rather than beer bottles.
The RollR comes with all-terrain tires and a handle that swings up for easy mobility. Despite its design limitations, this feature allows a filled cooler to be moved more than a few feet by a single person.
The RollR truly shines with its add-ons, which can all be attached to the exterior of the cooler. The expandable bin is great for hauling blankets and snacks and easily collapses when not in use. There are also drink holders, a stash bag, and a small cutting board. It can even be attached to a bicycle and towed like a baby trailer. However, these extras do come at an additional cost, with a flat for a bundle of all the extras (excluding the bike kit) and an additional $50 for the latter. These costs can easily add up, with prices starting at $399 for the cooler itself. However, with enhanced accessories, such as the Phil Lewis Artist Series bin at an additional , you can easily spend over $500. This is not insignificant, but considering the unparalleled ice retention capabilities, it's worth the investment - especially when you are off on long trips where it is essential to have access to cold drinks.
