Don't miss out on finding the perfect cooler that fits your needs - read on to discover the best Yeti cooler alternatives on the market.
TL;DR (Too Long, Didn't Read) Summary
This post is lengthy and provides detailed information on various coolers and why I recommend them.
If you're only interested in knowing the top coolers in each category, you can find them below with affiliate links to purchase them from Amazon or their respective websites.
Why Choose an Alternative to Yeti Coolers?
Why should you consider buying a cooler that is similar to Yeti but from a different brand? Why not just go with the familiar and well-known Yeti coolers?
There are a few key reasons why people opt for alternative coolers instead of Yeti:
Price – Yeti coolers are known for being expensive, and by choosing a different brand, you can save quite a bit of money.
Features – Some alternative coolers offer features that Yeti coolers do not have, making them more practical for certain needs.
Better ice retention – While Yeti coolers are good at keeping ice, some other coolers excel in this area and offer even better ice retention.
Made in the USA – Yeti coolers are not manufactured in the USA, so if it is important to you to support a brand that is made locally, you may prefer an alternative option.
Personal preference – You might simply not like the Yeti brand or have a desire to own their products. Fortunately, there are numerous great alternatives available, giving you plenty of options.
First, Avoid These Coolers
Go to Amazon and search for "Yeti coolers" (or click here for the search). You can also search for "coolers" (or click here for the search).
Focus on the ads at the top of the search results instead of the organic listings.
When I searched for Yeti coolers, I found an ad for "Thermik" coolers.
When I searched for "coolers," I came across an ad for a cooler brand called Reyleo.
I have never heard of these brands before, despite my years of reviewing coolers. While the Reyleo cooler looks fairly good, I always advise against buying these lesser-known brands.
These random brands frequently appear on Amazon or through other advertisements. Most often, they are cheap, low-quality coolers that have simply been rebranded with a logo after being ordered from China.
A quick search on Alibaba reveals that you can import similar coolers for as little as $30-$50 each (in bulk). However, based on my experience in this field, many of these smaller brands come and go, and there are numerous negative reviews about their lack of ice retention and poor build quality.
In summary: Do not waste your money on unfamiliar brands that may not be around for long or won't offer support if issues arise.
Second, Yeti Coolers Are Surprisingly Superior
When I first started out, I questioned the need to buy a Yeti cooler when there are other brands that can hold ice just as well.
It was a valid question. After all, it is just an insulated box. If I can save $100, why not choose a different brand?
So, I purchased multiple coolers from high-quality brands like Pelican and Engel. However, when the coolers arrived, Yeti stood out among the rest.
It is difficult to describe the feeling that the Yeti cooler gives you. The plastic looks and feels better, the colors are more appealing, and the attention to detail and build quality are exceptional.
This cooler exudes a premium aura. In comparison, the Engel cooler seemed like a significant downgrade.
The truth is, both coolers are essentially white boxes, but the Yeti gives a premium feel that I fell in love with.
Moreover, the Yeti performs exceptionally well in terms of ice retention. While there are other coolers that excel in this area, the Yeti holds its own.
Check out the ice test I conducted below:
[Insert ice test video]
At the time, even my wife considered the Yeti the most beautiful option. So, after completing my reviews, I sold or gave away the other coolers and kept the Yeti.
While some other coolers may have slight advantages in performance or additional features, Yeti coolers are simply fantastic. They have earned their position as the market leader. If another brand fails to captivate you, I would recommend choosing a Yeti cooler.

PROS:
- Most popular and desirable brand
- Excellent ice retention
- Extremely high build quality
- Wide variety of colors and sizes
CONS:
- Expensive
- Only a 5-Year warranty
- Not the absolute best ice retention in the industry
How to Choose a Yeti Alternative
Choosing a suitable alternative to Yeti coolers can be challenging but not impossible.
The key is to evaluate the best coolers in different categories and find the one that aligns with your priorities.
For instance, if you prioritize price and value for money, there is a clear winner in that category – the Lifetime cooler. If the longest ice retention is essential to you, then there are two standout coolers in that category.
Similarly, if you prefer a cooler manufactured in the USA, there are two obvious choices. If you specifically need a cooler with wheels, there is a primary option to consider.
By identifying what matters most to you, you can select the best cooler in that particular category.
This approach may not resolve all decision-making dilemmas, as some individuals prefer to extensively research all aspects. However, it will help the majority find a Yeti-like cooler that offers both quality and affordability.
Best Value for Money: Lifetime Coolers
When it comes to value for money, nothing beats the Lifetime cooler.
It has all the essential features you expect from a cooler like Yeti, but its selling price is significantly lower compared to other Yeti alternatives on the market.
The smaller sizes, such as the 28-Quart and 55-Quart, typically retail for under $100, while the larger 77-Quart size is just slightly more expensive.
In comparison, the Yeti Roadie 24 costs around $200, and the Yeti Tundra 65 is priced at $350, making the savings from choosing the Lifetime cooler quite substantial. For a more detailed comparison, check out my full Lifetime vs Yeti cooler article.
Here are some key features of the Lifetime cooler:
- Ice retention similar to, if not better than, Yeti
- Made in the USA
- Non-slip feet that slide when the cooler is raised (a great feature)
- Bear-proof
- Built-in bottle opener
- Easy-to-use rubber latches
- Rubber gasket
- Nylon rope handles
The Lifetime cooler checks off all the important boxes.
Lifetime is a US-based company specializing in blow-molded plastics. Their coolers, including this one, are blow-molded rather than roto-molded like Yeti coolers. This means Yeti coolers are slightly more durable. However, for the average person, this difference is not noticeable. Unless you subject your gear to rigorous use, the Lifetime cooler will hold up just fine.
The main downsides of the Lifetime cooler are its limited size options and its availability in only one color.
This cooler is perfect for those who want a Yeti-like cooler on a tight budget. It is primarily sold through Walmart but can also be found on Amazon.

Compare prices of Lifetime coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Great value for money
- Made in the USA
- Comparable ice retention to Yeti
- Similar features to Yeti
CONS:
- Only available in 3 sizes
- Slightly less durable than Yeti
- Only comes in one color
Runner Up for Value for Money: Igloo BMX
If the Lifetime cooler doesn't fit your preference, another excellent value-for-money option is the Igloo BMX cooler.
This cooler is one of the most affordable alternatives to Yeti coolers.
While it is cheaper than the Lifetime cooler, I find that its build quality and ice retention are not quite as good.
Check the latest prices for Igloo BMX Coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Extremely affordable
- Ice retention of up to 2 days
- Offers most features found in Yeti coolers
CONS:
- Not roto-molded, so slightly less durable
- Hinges and handles are not as sturdy
- Ice retention is not as good as Yeti
Cheapest Roto-Molded Cooler: Walmart's Ozark Trail
The Lifetime and Igloo BMX coolers mentioned earlier are blow-molded, which means they are made from thinner plastic and are less durable compared to Yeti coolers, which are roto-molded.
Roto-molding creates a thicker shell and is responsible for the indestructible reputation of Yeti coolers.
If you are looking for the cheapest roto-molded cooler, the standout brand is Walmart's own Ozark Trail cooler.
While these coolers are decent and feature built-in cup holders on the lid, their quality and ice retention are not as good as the Lifetime coolers. For a comprehensive comparison, read my full Lifetime vs Ozark Trail cooler article.
The lids of Ozark Trail coolers have a tendency to warp when exposed to sunlight, and their ice retention performance is relatively poor compared to Yeti coolers.
One of the Ozark Trail coolers worth considering is the 60-Quart wheeled cooler, which offers decent value for its price. However, I am not particularly enthusiastic about the other options.
That being said, these coolers are inexpensive and easy to purchase, and some people genuinely love them.
See the latest prices of Ozark Trail coolers at Walmart.com
PROS:
- Less than half the price of Yeti coolers
- Roto-molded and durable, with features similar to Yeti
- Built-in ruler and cup holders on the lid
CONS:
- Ice retention is not as good as Yeti
- Overall build quality is not as good
- Only available in one color
- No known warranty
Best Ice Retention: Otterbox Coolers
If you prioritize the longest ice retention and want a cooler that outperforms all others, the Otterbox cooler is the brand for you.
In my article on the best coolers for ice retention, I extensively researched the ice retention of every cooler brand, and Otterbox consistently came out on top, closely followed by Kong Coolers.
The Otterbox Venture, for example, has an ice retention capacity of 10-14 days and easily surpasses a similarly sized Yeti cooler by an additional 2 days. For a comprehensive comparison, read my full Otterbox vs Yeti comparison.
The Otterbox cooler is injection molded and manufactured to exceptionally high standards. It is also made in the USA, which may be important to those with a preference for domestically produced items.
This exceptional performance comes at a slightly higher price compared to Yeti coolers. However, the Otterbox cooler is backed by a lifetime guarantee and boasts remarkable quality.
If you seek absolute top-notch performance, the Otterbox cooler is the number one Yeti alternative for you.
See the latest prices of Otterbox coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Best brand for ice retention
- Made in the USA
- Extremely high-quality
- Cool system for mounting accessories
- Two-tone color design
- Lifetime warranty
CONS:
- Slightly more expensive than Yeti
- Side handles protrude, taking up more space
- Limited color options
Runner Up for Ice Retention: Kong Coolers
The Kong cooler performs exceptionally well in terms of ice retention. It is almost on par with the Otterbox, with a negligible difference.
Depending on the size and external temperatures, you can expect 7-14 days of ice retention from Kong coolers.
In a comprehensive test video, the Kong coolers were compared side by side, and each cooler kept the ice for a minimum of 6 days, with the largest size keeping ice for an impressive 10 days!
Made in the USA and backed by a lifetime warranty, these coolers are of superb quality and will not disappoint you.
The robust handles and thick plastic latches are notable features, and the accessories, such as the Kong-Kicker, are innovative and exciting additions.
You may not find these coolers in many stores, but they are readily available on Amazon.
See the latest prices of Kong Coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Excellent ice retention – better than Yeti
- Made in the USA
- Includes cooler accessories like the Kong-Kicker
CONS:
- Slightly more expensive than Yeti and other brands
- Design may not be the most visually appealing
- Kong Coolers is a newer brand with relatively minimal market testing
Best Warranty: Canyon Coolers
If you value peace of mind above all else, then you should consider purchasing a cooler with a lifetime warranty. While Yeti hard-sided coolers only come with a 5-year warranty, there are several cooler brands that offer a lifetime warranty on their products. Brands like Orca, Kong, Pelican, Otterbox, and Grizzly all come with a limited lifetime warranty. You can find a comprehensive list of coolers with a lifetime warranty in this post.
However, the cooler with the best warranty is Canyon Coolers. Take a look at this statement from their warranty page:
"We will repair or replace your Canyon product in the event it becomes damaged or defective – at no cost to you. If we cannot repair your product, we will replace it with a new product of equal or better physical condition. We don't care what happened, how it happened, who's fault it was, or where or when you bought your Canyon Cooler. As long as you have the cooler, we promise to take care of you."
- Unlimited Lifetime Warranty
- Fully transferable
- No warranty card to complete
- No product registration requirements
- No need to keep the receipt
Canyon Coolers have all the main features you would expect from a brand like Yeti, and they perform just as well in terms of durability and ice retention. Plus, they are one of the more affordable brands on this list, so you can save some money by choosing Canyon.
Check out the latest prices of Canyon Coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Best lifetime warranty of any cooler
- Great ice retention and durability
- More affordable than other similar-sized coolers
CONS:
- Not made in the USA
- Limited color options available
- Not the most premium design
Made In The USA: ORCA Coolers
If owning a cooler that was made and manufactured locally in the USA is important to you, either for national pride, keeping jobs, or quality assurance, then Orca is the best brand for you.
These coolers are arguably better than Yeti coolers in terms of performance. They can hold ice longer than a Yeti cooler. They also look similar to Yeti coolers, with only minor differences in design.
Orca ranks #1 for the best coolers made in the USA, and they are also one of the top coolers when it comes to ice retention. They come with a lifetime warranty and are slightly cheaper than Yeti coolers.
PROS:
- Made in the USA
- Premium ice retention
- The most color options of any cooler other than Yeti
- Lifetime warranty
CONS:
- No cons to mention
- Not as cheap as other models
Runner Up USA Made: Pelican Coolers
Pelican is known for creating high-quality durable products, and their coolers are no different. The design of their coolers is unique, with a big, bulky, and tough appearance.
They seem to outperform Yeti in ice retention tests, although only by a small margin. Pelican coolers are also made in the USA. They offer a wheeled version that is considered one of the best coolers on wheels. Their metal latches are easy to use and backed by a lifetime warranty.
See the latest price of Pelican coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Made in the USA
- Extremely high-quality and built to last
- Similar features and ice retention to Yeti coolers
- Cup holders built into the lid
CONS:
- Latches don't pull down the lid tight, making it more likely to leak
- Larger sizes have protruding side handles that take up extra space
Most Similar To Yeti: RTIC Coolers
If you're looking for a Yeti knockoff cooler or a cooler that closely resembles Yeti, RTIC is the brand for you. In fact, Yeti sued RTIC and won because their coolers were so similar. The two companies settled out of court.
RTIC was started by 2 brothers, just like Yeti. While they began as a "me too" product, they quickly gained a reputation and expanded into different outdoor equipment.
The features of RTIC coolers are almost identical to Yeti, as they closely resemble Yeti's design. However, they are built well and can hold ice just as long as Yeti coolers. They are also more affordable compared to Yeti.
See the latest prices of RTIC Coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Looks almost identical to Yeti
- Performs almost as well as a Yeti
CONS:
- Not a genuine Yeti product
- Made overseas, just like Yeti
Round Cooler: KULA Cooler
If you prefer round coolers over squares and rectangles, then KULA Coolers are the best round coolers on the market. They have similar features to the Yeti Roadie, with the main difference being their round shape.
KULA Coolers feature a built-in bottle opener, a drain plug on the bottom, and a strong metal carry handle. Stand up paddle boarders often prefer these coolers, as they are a mix between the Yeti Bucket and a cooler.
There may not be any significant benefits to having a round cooler, but the KULA Cooler is still pretty awesome and could be a suitable option for some people.
See the latest price of the KULA Cooler on Amazon
PROS:
- One of the only round coolers available
- Built-in bottle opener
- Grip on lid for easier standing and more comfortable sitting
- Smaller size has a tap
CONS:
- No real benefit to the cooler being round
- Ice retention isn't as good as Yeti
- Only comes in small sizes (5-gallon and 2.5-gallon)
Best Cooler With Wheels: RovR Cooler
All the coolers mentioned so far have one thing in common - they lack wheels. Yeti coolers, with their thick plastic shell and insulation, are incredibly heavy even when empty. Once filled with ice and drinks, they become almost impossible to carry.
The RovR cooler is the best roto-molded cooler on wheels. It comes with a range of features, including internal and external storage buckets, cool accessories, and an attachment that allows you to attach your cooler to your bike and pull it along behind you.
This cooler is truly unique and of extremely high quality. For a detailed comparison between RovR and Yeti coolers, you can check out my RovR vs Yeti comparison. It ranks #2 on my list of the best wheeled coolers, just behind the Yeti Tundra Haul.
The RovR cooler comes in different sizes and colors, and it offers features that you won't find in any other cooler. It truly is one of a kind.
See the latest price of RovR coolers on Amazon
PROS:
- Built-in wheels for easy transport
- Internal and external storage buckets
- Bike attachment
- Great ice retention
CONS:
- Similar price to Yeti
- Limited size and color options
- Not widely available
Best Soft Cooler: Engel HD30
When it comes to soft-sided coolers, the Engel HD30 stands out from the rest. It has higher ice retention than any other soft-sided cooler, capable of holding ice for 4 days - longer than many similarly-sized hard-sided coolers. You can find a detailed review of the Engel HD30 here.
The Engel HD30 uses a unique vacuum valve that allows you to suck air out of the insulation, making it more effective. It is made with extremely strong 840-denier nylon that is TPU laminated, making it scratch, tear, and puncture-resistant.
Compared to the Yeti M30, its closest comparison, the Engel HD30 is cheaper and, in my opinion, a better cooler overall.
See the latest price of the Engel HD30 on Amazon
PROS:
- Best ice retention of any soft-sided cooler
- Made from super durable puncture, tear, and water-resistant fabric
- Cheaper than Yeti
CONS:
- Accessing items inside can be difficult when the cooler is full
- It's quite a large soft-sided cooler
- Limited color options
A Budget Alternative: Coleman Xtreme
If you're looking for an affordable cooler that can hold ice for a few days without all the bells and whistles, the Coleman Xtreme is a great option. It may not have all the features of a Yeti cooler, but it can hold ice for up to 5 days (although 2-4 days is more common), surpassing the ice retention of regular coolers.
The Coleman Xtreme is lighter than a Yeti and significantly cheaper. If you're on a tight budget and just need a good cooler for ice retention, the Coleman Xtreme is a reliable choice.

Pelican ProGear Elite
Of the coolers available that are similar to YETI, many people would agree that the Pelican ProGear Elite line is one of the closest competitors. This YETI cooler alternative aims to provide a higher-quality product than YETI, although this often comes with a higher price tag.
We have seen the 35-Quart Pelican ProGear Elite Marine Cooler (in white) selling for $160 with free shipping from Walmart, which also included the 20-Quart options at $139.88. Additionally, the 35-Quart has been spotted on Woot.com for just $199.99.
ORCA Coolers
Similar to the Pelican ProGear Elite, ORCA Coolers offer comparable quality to YETI, including their warranty. However, this means that you won't find the deeply discounted prices that alternatives like RTIC offer.
Nevertheless, ORCA coolers are an excellent YETI alternative. Not only have we seen them at more affordable prices, but they are also committed to manufacturing their products in the US, unlike YETI.
We've seen ORCA Coolers on sale from Midway USA, such as the ORCA 20-Quart Cooler for $170.99 and the ORCA 75-Quart Cooler for $314.99.
Warranty
The YETI alternatives either provide a lifetime warranty or have warranties that are a few years shorter than YETI's 3 or 5-year warranty. The customer service of each alternative cooler brand is generally good, but it's difficult to determine if they can match YETI's excellent reputation.
Durability
In terms of durability, all the coolers mentioned offer similar robustness to YETI coolers. Many of the YETI cooler alternatives are bear-safe, and the soft cooler alternatives offer features similar to the Hopper and Flip models.
Igloo Trailmate Roller Cooler
The Igloo Trailmate roller cooler is designed for off-roading adventures. This massive cooler is perfect for long trips into the woods, offering storage for over 100 cans, heavy-duty wheels, and even a telescoping butler tray. It has a suspended interior basket to keep food away from loose, wet ice, as well as tie-down loops for securing additional items. One reviewer noted that this cooler, which has a 4.1-star rating from Dick's Sporting Goods, has "so much more to offer than an expensive rotomolded cooler." It's a great alternative to YETI.

Price
Not all YETI alternatives are cheaper than YETI coolers; some are actually more expensive. However, there are options that can save you some money.
Our favorite YETI alternative for the Tundra is the OtterBox 65 Venture Cooler. With the OtterBox, you save money while still getting the same cooling and durability as YETI, along with some added extras. The OtterBox offers accessory add-ons for customization, although it does not have the same bear-safe feature or a warranty as long as YETI's.
OtterBox Venture Cooler, Ridgeline, 65 Quart
- Use an optional Dry storage tray or separator (both sold separately) to organize the interior however you like: keep Dry or soft items separate and create custom compartments
- Bottle opener included
A great YETI alternative for the Hopper is the RTIC Insulated Soft Cooler Bag. With the RTIC, you get a similar cooler to the Hopper with a similar capacity at a lower price. It has all the same features as the YETI Hopper, except for a shorter warranty and slightly shorter ice retention. It's a great value.
RTIC Soft Cooler 30 Can, Insulated Bag Portable Ice Chest Box for Lunch, Beach, Drink, Beverage, Travel, Camping, Picnic, Car, Trips, Floating Cooler Leak-Proof with Zipper, Black
- UP TO 24 HOURS OF COOLING – The RTIC soft insulated cooler is the perfect insulated cooler bag to keep your food and drinks cool wherever needed for up to 24 hours.
- IT'S A FLOATING COOLER – Not to mention it's a floating cooler, it floats, so your drinks and snacks can go wherever you go. Ideal for a day at the pool or lake, no matter where the adventure takes.
The best YETI alternative for the Flip is the Grizzly Drifter 20 Flip-top Soft Cooler. The Grizzly offers the same features as the YETI Flip, with additional features and a larger capacity, all at a lower price.
Of course, this article doesn't cover every cooler brand, but we wanted to mention a few other options worth checking out, such as RLC Coolers, Engel Coolers, Bison Coolers, and Canyon Coolers. With more time, these would definitely be added to the list.
In conclusion, while Yeti coolers may be the go-to choice for many outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of affordable alternatives that offer comparable features and quality. Whether you're looking for the best value for money, outstanding ice retention, or the peace of mind that comes with a great warranty, there's a cooler on this list that will suit your needs. From the budget-friendly Coleman Xtreme to the top-notch performance of the RTIC Ultra-Light, these options prove that you don't have to break the bank to have a reliable cooler by your side. So, next time you're in the market for a cooler, consider these alternatives that deliver on both price and performance.
